Our new chief probation officers are ready to build on the significant progress made by our probation services in the south-west of England over the last 11 months.
Charlie Baker, who joined Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company (KSS CRC) in January, is seconded from the National Probation Service until the end of our contract in spring 2021.
She brings with her a successful track record of improving the performance and quality of probation services as a former Director of Operations for Gloucestershire and more recently as a Local Delivery Unit Head for the National Probation Service in Bristol. Charlie’s achievements include having helped the former Gloucestershire Probation Area go from being in special measures to a top performer.
Having also begun her probation career in the south-west of England and qualifying as a probation officer in 1993, she brings with her extensive experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system and local reoffending issues.
Charlie says she is looking forward to working with employees and partners to reduce reoffending across Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire Probation Services and Dorset, Devon and Cornwall Probation Services.
“KSS CRC has an excellent reputation within the probation service and I am excited and privileged to be given the opportunity to lead the probation services in the south-west of England. Over the last 11 months, there has already been much progress in creating a strong service with a culture of providing a high-quality service to the public and it is one I aim to continue with by working with our employees and partners.”
Liz Watkins has also become our interim Chief Probation Officer for Interventions. Liz previously worked as a Deputy Chief Probation Officer for the south-west of England.
Commenting on her appointment, Liz Watkins, newly appointed Interim Chief Probation officer for Interventions, said: “There is a lot of good work going on across the organisation and some examples of really positive partnership working. I look forward to working with colleagues and partner organisations to help us shape effective programmes and services for our communities across the area that reduce reoffending.”
KSS CRC’s Chief Executive Suki Binning said:
“I am pleased to announce Charlie and Liz as our chief probation officers for the south-west of England to build on our probation services’ progress. Both bring a wealth of experience to our probation services to ensure ‘outstanding’ quality services are at the heart of everything we do to promote rehabilitation and community safety.”
